Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI) will invest nearly US$15 million in renewing port equipment during 2025. This initiative aligns with the concessionaire’s strategy to strengthen its position as a multipurpose port terminal, venturing into new markets and expanding its customer base.
During the year’s first half, the terminal will add a second state-of-the-art mobile crane, specifically a Konecranes ESP.10, and the first batch of eight Kalmar container cranes. ITI’s General Manager, Rodrigo Pommiez, stated, “We are focused on improving ITI’s competitiveness and productivity, for which this significant investment in equipment is essential. These actions align with a strategy of exploring new market opportunities, including incorporating other services that will enhance the port’s operational efficiency and offer our customers comprehensive logistics solutions.”
In this regard, the executive emphasized that this strengthening of ITI will not only benefit the concessionaire but will also significantly impact the logistics chain associated with the port. “We expect these improvements we are implementing to drive regional economic growth and strengthen Iquique’s competitiveness as a key logistics hub in northern Chile,” he added.
Additionally, ITI is implementing a 4G LTE network that will contribute to more efficient data transmission, facilitate information capture by reducing potential errors, and streamline cargo traceability for customers, among other benefits.
Regarding the 2024 balance, ITI handled a total of 2.5 million tons of cargo in 2024.
