TPG certified for its commitment to carbon footprint reduction
Terminal Portuario de Guayaquil (TPG) reached a new milestone in its commitment to sustainability and environmental impact reduction by earning a Greenhouse Gas Inventory Verification Statement from the certification company SGS and an Organizational Carbon Footprint Reduction certification.
The General Manager of Terminal Portuario de Guayaquil, Luisenrique Navas, highlighted the value of this certification for the company: “Our terminal understands that its operations impact the environment. So, we remain firmly committed to implementing initiatives that generate positive effects, with a vision focused on operational excellence and environmental protection, with our team’s constant support to achieve our objectives.
To move towards increasingly sustainable operations, TPG has concentrated its efforts on its main emissions source, namely its large container cranes. Equipment upgrades to units with more energy-efficient engines helped the terminal reduce CO2 emissions per metric ton transferred per year by 10% compared to the previous year.
This recognition demonstrates the port’s compliance with ISO 14064-1:2018, which sets requirements and principles for quantifying and reporting an organization’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Technical support for the process was provided by the consulting firm Carbono Neutral.
In addition, as of September 2023, TPG has reinforced its commitment to sustainability by joining the Zero Carbon Ecuador Program (PECC), promoted by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.
This step reinforces the terminal’s efforts towards carbon neutrality and underscores the importance of collective action on climate change.
