A Greener Terminal: TPG Achieves Carbon Neutrality and Earns Recognition from MAATE

Terminal Portuario de Guayaquil (TPG) reached an important environmental milestone.
Guayaquil, April 21, 2025
Following a rigorous technical process per international standards ISO 14064-1:2018 and ISO 14068-1:2023, the terminal has been officially verified as a carbon neutral organization by SGS of Ecuador. This assurance statement covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2022, reflecting the terminal’s commitment to efficient, environmentally friendly port operations.
The assurance process confirms that TPG’s operations achieved carbon neutrality, covering 100% of Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and various Scope 3 categories that have been quantified and verified. This achievement was possible thanks to improvements in operations, such as optimizing fuel consumption in port equipment, which led to a significant reduction in its environmental footprint. It also acquired Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) to offset the remaining emissions.
“At TPG we are convinced that port development must go hand in hand with environmental care. That is why our infrastructure includes low-emission electrical equipment designed to operate with maximum energy efficiency and the lowest possible impact. Achieving carbon neutrality is a firm step towards our vision of being a more sustainable port,” said TPG’s general manager, Luisenrique Navas.
In addition, the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE) awarded TPG the GHG Carbon Footprint Quantification Distinction under the Zero Carbon Ecuador Program. This recognition validates compliance with national environmental regulations and the organization’s commitment to the transparent and systematic measurement of its emissions.
